Research notes, 1936-1965.

These papers document the research conducted by Hans Huth between 1936-1965 on the Moravian painter John Valentine Haidt. Haidt was a German born preacher who settled at the Moravian community near Bethlehem, PA in 1754. His paintings are possibly the earliest examples of religious art produced in America. Huth's research on Haidt includes miscellaneous bibliographic citations and biographical notes on small pieces of paper, lists of paintings, newspaper and magazine clippings, manuscripts of lectures, and photographs of Haidt's paintings. Much of the collection is comprised of correspondence in German and English, to and from various individuals and organizations including Vernon Nelson, Frank Albright, and the Archiv der Bruder-Unitat in der Herrnhut.
